About the workshop:
Good agreements are essential for the success of any production. This workshop aims at enabling film and TV producers to handle an agreement like a good script: with passion and a deep understanding of its structures and mechanisms.
Participants will dive deep into the psychological dynamics involved in any negotiation and gain knowledge on how to protect their interests in the best way. In interactive and practical exercises during the workshop, they will have the chance to apply and test the newly learned methods and techniques with other professionals directly.
Internationally renowned experts will shed light onto the industry's inner workings and provide a comprehensive overview of VOD-platforms and other potential business partners. They will also share exclusive insights as well as equip participants with hands-on tips on setting themselves up for success and entering negotiations with confidence and a strong mindset.

The Experts
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Michel
Ulrich Michel is regarded as a leading media and entertainment lawyer. In addition to his specific law expertise Ulrich Michel is an experienced business mediator and certified psychological coach. He teaches negotiation and conflict resolution at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and at the University for Film and Television in Babelsberg where he is a professor for entertainment law. Ulrich Michel is recommended by Best Lawyers Germany as a leading expert in Germany for arbitration, mediation, media law and intellectual property. JUVE, Legal500 Germany and Media Law refer to him as a highly recommended lawyer in the field of media.
Wendy Bernfeld
Originally from Montreal, then in Europe since ’91, Wendy has 25+ years experience in film / Pay TV / VOD channel startup, curation and program buying, beginning originally as an entertainment lawyer and then crossing over to the business side in various international networks.
Prior to founding Rights Stuff in ’99, she was CEO Canal+ International Acquisitions (multi-territory, multi-platform buying, new channel startups for Filmnet / Nethold / Canal+), specialized in studio ‘output’ deals and international ‘indies’. Earlier roles included M.D. Alliance-Atlantis (international distribution/ coproduction) and SVP Movie Network (Canada).
Wendy has a L.L.B./ J.D. degree from Queens University, after a year of B.A./ M.B.A. courses in McGill and University of Toronto. She practiced law with Blake Cassels, & Silversteins firms in Toronto, after being 1 of 10 appointees as Law Clerk to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Wendy is a frequent lecturer/ writer on digital media, as well as a strong supporter of the film industry and festival sectors, and acts on various advisory boards. She was named as one of the ‘Brave Thinkers of Indie Film, 2010’ by Oscar-winning independent producer Ted Hope.

Thanks to the support of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, a limited number of local scholarships are available for media professionals based in the regions of Berlin, Brandenburg, Thüringen, Sachsen, and Sachsen-Anhalt.
These scholarships can cover up to 50% of the workshop fee, excluding accommodation.
